HoYoverse, you know them, the folks behind Genshin Impact, just dropped a bit of a bombshell. They’re cutting the PS4 loose. Yep, no more updates for you, PS4 folks. Not after next spring, at least. And wait, it gets worse—they’re yanking it from the PlayStation Store next month. By February 2026, all those shiny in-game purchase options? Gone. Poof. Like they never existed. After all that, come April, boom, no more Genshin on PS4. Zilch.
They’ve put out this statement. Something about “hardware performance” and “platform application size.” Yeah, techy mumbo-jumbo. Starting September 9, 2025, no more Genshin in the PlayStation Store. It’s like it was never there. Unless you download it before then. But, geez, talk about a disappearing act.
And February 25, 2026? Mark your calendars, I guess. If you bought stuff in-game but haven’t claimed it by then? Well, tough luck. It’ll vanish. Just like that.
April 8, 2026. The nail in the coffin. Can’t even log in after that. Though apparently, you can still use your account on other platforms—Xbox Series, PS5, PC, heck, even on your phone. But, it’s weird, right? Why ditch PS4 but not mobiles? I mean, if a smartphone can handle it, shouldn’t a PS4? I’ve got this whole thing buzzing in my head. Phones don’t exactly have a superpower compared to a PS4. I might be missing something here. The game needs 8GB on Android, runs on old chips. iPhones from 2017 are in the mix too. And PS4 came out with 8GB RAM. Hmm.
Chatted with HoYoverse again. They say it’s about “supporting future versions” and upping device specs starting with the ‘Song of the Welkin Moon’ version. Whatever that means.
So, most players won’t care too much, I guess? But if you’ve got ancient Android phones lying around, get ready for hiccups. Still, kinda strange PS4 can’t handle the heat. It sucks, no two ways about it. This is what happens with today’s games—here one day, gone the next.
