Yo, so here’s the lowdown on this whole Dropout thing. Once known as College Humor (that’s a throwback, right?), it’s like, super blowing up online now because of their show Game Changer. Hosted by Sam Reich, who also happens to be the CEO, this thing is wild. Basically, comedians come on and play these off-the-wall games. Honestly, I found myself wondering if we’d ever see a video game spin-off from this chaos. Spoiler: Probably!
Recently, I managed to chat with Reich—Zoom style—about how they come up with these insane games for the show. The full convo is dropping later, so, stay tuned if you wanna know all the behind-the-scenes tea. But I just had to ask: Are they dreaming up some video game antics too?
“Totally,” Reich says, and he’s all chill about it. If they go down that road, think something like their hit D&D series, Dimension 20, or Game Changer.
Reich breaks it down—“We’d dig that, for sure, we’ve even tossed around the idea,” he admits. But here’s the rub: They want it to feel like them. No chance they’re outsourcing it. If it’s happening, it’s gonna be on their terms. And he’s not sugarcoating the reality—it’s a bandwidth thing, and games take ages and lots of dough to make.
I pushed him on whether this was some pie-in-the-sky dream or if they’ve actually brainstormed what this game might be. Reich confirmed they’ve got ideas brewing, and they’re inching towards making it real.
He casually dropped that they’ve been testing the waters with those mini web games you’ve seen on Game Changer. Sort of like, are we even speaking the right “game dev” language here, you know?
In our talk, Reich was pretty stoked about the possibility of a Game Changer game actually happening one day. “It’s just a matter of what and when,” he says, leaving me kind of hyped.
Oh, and BTW, don’t forget the season 7 Game Changer finale is only on Dropout, dropping August 11. Mark it down or something.
