Oh man, so Wuchang: Fallen Feathers — it’s gotten this reputation. Like it’s been called all sorts of weird stuff: Souls-slop, gooner-bait, and weirdly enough, a surprisingly decent game. Now you can slap “censored” on its resume thanks to the 1.5 update. It’s like they tried to put out a fire or something because some fans in China weren’t having it. Some diehard folks are patting themselves for grabbing the disc version, thinking they’re invincible with their original copy from way back when it launched. Sure, guys.
So, this patch hits earlier this week, right? And most changes seemed like, whatever, no biggie. People kinda liked stuff like faster healing animations, dodging out of recoveries — like, woohoo! But then there’s this sneaky stuff that kinda starts ringing alarm bells. They added dialogues for NPCs to wrap up some story bits, which sounds harmless. And there’s this line about making exhaustion animations all fancy to boost plot performance. Sounds legit, until you’re like, wait, what?
Then it clicks, courtesy of this dude Lance McDonald who’s like a Souls game whiz or something. Apparently, they flipped the script so you can’t off any significant bosses or NPCs anymore. Instead, they’re just like, “Nah, I’m tired, let’s chill and chat.” Historical dudes like Liu Wenxiu and Emperor Chongzhen who were supposed to be toast are now just hanging out. Wild, right?
So Lance, he tweets this stuff, basically mocking how people lost it over being able to kill a Ming Dynasty Dragon Emperor in the game. Seriously, he was dead in history anyway, reanimated zombie style. But for some reason, the change got folks all riled up, saying it ruins the narrative. Can’t help but laugh at that.
And then there’s more. Apparently, complaints from Chinese players led to censorship — the game devs folded. Also, the “pray” gesture, which was this neat thing you picked up from this Portuguese Christian character? Poof, it’s gone. They even made some enemy soldiers super friendly, like in Chapter 4. What used to be a real struggle is now, well, kind of boring.
And Steam? Oh boy. Players lost their minds over patch 1.5, venting on Steam and Reddit. Some folks claimed the mods on Reddit were just erasing their complaints — conspiracy theories, anyone? There’s this fan switching to console after 80 hours on Steam, almost like making a grand statement — “Long Live Wuchang 1.0,” they declared. Classic. Some are even trying a tricky rollback on Steam.
But hey, not everyone’s losing it. The game’s getting a bit snappier performance-wise on PC. Does that mean the Steam reviews are doing a U-turn? Not really. The waves of review-bombing haven’t let up, now over this whole censorship saga. As for Leenzee, the developers? They’re mum on why they shook up the storyline. Anyway, this update hit PS5 and Xbox Series X/S today. Fun times, right?
