Okay, so I gotta admit something up front—never played the OG Bravely Default on the 3DS. Yep, I know, what was I thinking? Everyone insisted it was right up there with Final Fantasy. Fast forward to now, stumbling into PAX East 2025, and boom—there’s a demo of Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster. Fresh eyes, I guess?
First off… single screen. Yeah, that threw me off, but hey, they glammed up the graphics. High-def all the way. Chatted with a Square Enix rep, tossed the idea of maybe giving Bravely Second an overhaul too? She nodded like, “Maybe, sure,” but who really knows? Fingers crossed it happens just ’cause I said it.
Timed demos though, ugh. The RPG vibe just… doesn’t fit. I was skipping dialogue like a madman. Got my hands dirty with combat instead. Super unique setup: Brave and Default. Brave has you attacking a bunch, but leaves you wide open after. Default’s like your safety net, defending and stashing turns for later. Not gonna lie, I pretty much spammed Brave, just went wild hoping not to get wrecked. Strategy? What’s that again?
Didn’t dive into that job system thing. But, wow, the game left a mark. Regretting skipping it on 3DS, but this remaster seems like the perfect do-over for people like me. Mark June 5th on your calendars—Switch 2 launch day and all. Don’t miss it!
