Stores in Japan are gearing up for the Nintendo Switch 2 launch, and let me tell you, it’s like the great video game migration has begun. The displays are popping up everywhere, like mushrooms after a rain. Not that I’ve ever been a mushroom, but you get what I mean—suddenly they’re just there. Literally just weeks away from the big day, and everyone’s buzzing about it. Met a guy at the store who was just standing there, staring at one of the setups like it was sent from gaming heaven.
So, the Switch 2’s coming out with Mario Kart World as its headliner. Not that we didn’t see that coming, but it’s still cool. They’ve got all these gizmos like a new camera and a racing wheel. Can’t say I need them, but I still want them. Oh, and they’re revamping some of the old hits like those Zelda games. More Zelda is never a bad idea, right? I’ve spent more hours wandering those lands than I’d care to admit.
Anyway—wait, where was I? Right! People spotting Switch 2 stuff in stores means it’s real. Like, it’s happening. And the hype? It’s like this living thing, growing and feeding off everyone’s energy. Nintendo’s teased some new titles—Kirby, Donkey Kong, Metroid—they’re not playing around. Turns out some third-party folks are getting in on the action too, because why wouldn’t they?
Poking around online, stumbled across a subreddit post (still not entirely sure what a subreddit is, but whatever), showing off a store in Japan. The displays are all done up in that snazzy Nintendo red. What is it about that color? Makes you think you’re about to unwrap the best gift ever. They’ve even got spaces for all those shiny new gadgets, like the racing wheel and camera. Like I needed another reason to empty my wallet.
So, if you’re a fan—and who isn’t at this point?—the wait is almost over. June 5th is marked in blood on calendars, metaphorically speaking. Pre-orders are gone before you can blink, which makes the midnight release parties sound like a blast. And Nintendo’s got this insane lineup, like they’ve stacked the deck. Donkey Kong doing his thing in 3D again? I’m in. Kirby’s getting an upgrade too. Oh, and a bonus—they’re jazzing up Metroid Prime 4 and some Pokémon adventures for the Switch 2.
Almost feels like a celebration. Or maybe I’m just getting caught up in it all. Seriously though, who could resist?
