Alright, so here we go. Boss fights, right? They’re like the bread and butter of FromSoftware’s "Soulsborne" games, and this new spinoff, Elden Ring Nightreign, is all about that. Imagine this: you’re running around smacking minibosses to get stronger so you can tackle these big bad Nightlords. It’s wild, I know.
There are, like, eight of these main dudes — each one a unique nightmare. And since I’ve thrown myself at all of them with different characters, I figured I’d rank them. Why not, right?
But heads up, this is where I spoil everything. So if you’re one of those who hates that, maybe just… don’t?
8. Augur/Maris, Fathom of Night
So, Maris. Not too tough but kinda boring? At least for melee folks. Dodging those spinny air attacks is fun, but then it’s like the boss just flies around too much. Imagine chasing a giant cosmic slug. Not as fun as it sounds. You need a ranged weapon just to make it less of a drag.
And that sleep move? Infuriating. The boss thinks it’s nap time, and you’re standing there, catching Z’s against your will. If you can’t slap it awake fast enough, you’re done for. Ugh.
7. Tricephalos/Gladius, Beast of Night
First boss, right — a glorified tutorial. This Cerberus look-alike might seem easy, but no, it bites back if you’re not careful. Those sword swings and fire breaths? They keep you on your toes. But it’s nothing to write home about; pretty basic compared to the rest.
6. Sentient Pest/Gnoster, Wisdom of Night
Two giant bugs. Yep, like a tag team showdown where one bug barrels into you and the other zaps you with magic. Cool concept, honestly. But then the moth hops on the scorpion’s back, and it becomes a standard boss affair. Not complaining — it’s still a blast, though.
5. Darkdrift Knight/Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow
This centaur guy is no joke. Throws a party of wind, quakes, and holy spears. Jumping his moves gives you a chance for a counter. Oh, and bring a lightning weapon to party, and he might flinch. He turns a bit wild with a glowing hand in Phase 2, adding to the chaos.
4. Gaping Jaw/Adel, Baron of Night
Less variety here, but biting a giant dragon’s face off is a thrill. The spectacle absolutely elevates this fight. The lightning show in Phase 2, all purple and epic? Bone-chilling. Oh, if Adel grabs a friend, save them with a heavy smack. It’s heroic, really.
3. Fissure in the Fog/Caligo, Miasma of Night
FromSoft’s love-hate relationship with dragons continues. But this ice dragon? One of the best. Claw swipes, ice breath, tail whips — plus, it turns the arena into a frosty minefield. The dive-bombing Phase 2, though? Jaw-dropping. Literally.
2. Night Aspect/Heolstor the Nightlord
Last bosses usually shine, and Heolstor does. It’s this perfect duel against a fellow warrior. His flurries and magic make it an epic dance. Phase 2 ups the ante, slashing holes in the sky and imbuing his sword with crazy energy. Totally rad.
1. Equilibrious Beast/Libra, Creature of Night
My top pick. Libra’s all about positioning and timing. Offers you a deal at the start — wild, huh? The madness attacks are a nightmare unless you grab those crystals that heal and clear your sanity. Stay close and provoke those melee moves if you dare.
So that’s the rundown. Elden Ring Nightreign does some wild things with the formula. Sure, it has its issues, but for us Souls fans, it’s a delicious kind of chaos.
