The Last Hero: Journey to the Unknown Review
You know, sometimes you stumble upon a game and think, "Here we go again with another fantasy quest." But hey, The Last Hero: Journey to the Unknown? It kind of surprises you. So, what’s the deal with this one? It’s a 2D wave-based action game from Ratalaika and Titan Art Games. And yeah, it’s in some magical land, with an evil wizard — typical, right? — named Voidgem who’s causing chaos. Typical Tuesday, I guess.
Jumping into it, right off the bat, you’re the hero (no pressure!) and you get a sword and a shield. Let me tell you, swinging that thing felt oddly satisfying. There’s over 30 levels, loads of stuff to collect — items and relics and all that jazz. But really, what got me was those bosses, standing there like, "Yeah, bring it on."
Okay, let’s talk controls for a sec. Control your hero with the left stick. Jump? X button. Attack? Square button. Shield and roll? Circle and R1. You know the drill. The D-Pad switches your potions — a lifesaver, honestly. And the levels? Gosh, I don’t know, they just pull you in. Special powers that build up? Don’t forget to unleash them when things get hairy.
Defeating enemies gives you gold coins. Like, it’s the real currency in this world. Spend them wisely, kiddos! They’re your ticket to cool upgrades. Ever wanted to conjure a meteor shower? Well, you’re in luck. There’s also gems to snag. Collect ’em all, like Pokémon but…not really.
Important sidenote: This comes from Ratalaika Games. Expect a Platinum trophy. It’s a Cross-Buy thing, too, so score — PS4 and PS5 love for the price of one. Trophies piled up faster than I could keep track. Want extra tips? There’s a trophy guide somewhere out there.
Oh, and before I forget, it’s priced at $4.99. I mean, pocket change for some old-school gaming fun across two consoles, am I right?
Disclaimer: Snagged this PlayStation 5 copy from Ratalaika Games. Thanks, folks!
