After hearing about several GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs suddenly failing, NVIDIA has begun looking into the issue.
Recently, problems with RTX 5090 GPUs and the specific Chinese model, the RTX 5090D, have been surfacing everywhere. Frustrated users have tried various ways to fix their malfunctioning units, yet the problems remain in most instances. While a handful of individuals have stumbled upon odd fixes, most people dealing with this haven’t found much relief. Given the issue’s widespread nature, it has caught NVIDIA’s attention, and they are finally taking steps to address it. According to PC Gamer, NVIDIA commented,
“We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.”
And that’s the extent of their statement so far. Although there isn’t a detailed explanation or solution outlined yet, it’s clear NVIDIA is now aware. For those unfamiliar with the situation, this problem began recently when many RTX 5090 and 5090D users discovered their graphics cards could no longer display anything other than a black screen on the monitor after a driver update.
This has been a consistent complaint ever since users applied the latest NVIDIA driver update. The issue has grown into a real puzzle; even reverting to an earlier driver doesn’t fix it, as the GPU remains undetectable. Some users even tried resetting the BIOS to no avail, leaving their graphics card invisible in both Device Manager and BIOS.
While the exact cause is still a mystery, some speculate that it could be linked to architectural or driver compatibility issues rather than a hardware defect. Until NVIDIA provides a thorough response, however, a permanent fix for the RTX 5090 and 5090D’s bricking issue remains elusive.
