Alright, so here’s this thing—Matt Ryan, you know, that guy who voiced Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag? Yeah, him. Anyway, he was at some convention signing stuff when he let slip to a fan that maybe, just maybe, they should replay the 2013 pirate game. And now everyone’s buzzing about a possible remake or remaster. I mean, could be something, could be nothing, right?
But oh boy, turns out, Ubisoft wasn’t thrilled. Like at all. They apparently went as far as threatening legal action because this little chat got caught on video and spread online. Oops.
Here’s how it went down, from what I gather. There’s this TikTok user, kylo_hd659, who posted the whole interaction from Comic Con Manchester. Like seriously, the whole exchange right at Ryan’s signing table. Ryan, being all candid—and maybe a bit too loosey-goosey—didn’t even know it was being recorded. And now he’s zipped up tight. No more hints from him.
He literally said, “The thing is, when that happened, someone was doing this and I was being very free and open and I didn’t know that they were actually recording me on their phone.” And then the bombshell: “Company threatened to sue me. So I say nothing.” Yikes.
And he even pointed at the camera while talking this time around, like, “Don’t look at me, everyone.” Kind of a strong way to get folks to stop poking the sleeping bear, you know? We did reach out to Ubisoft for their side of things but, well, still waiting.
It’s not like Ryan’s been loafing around since his Assassin’s Creed days. Nope, he’s been pretty busy being John Constantine in a bunch of DC projects. Live-action, animated, you name it. Hey, James Gunn, if you’re tuning in, how about bringing him into the DC Universe movies? Just a thought. Consider this my little plea. Thanks a bunch.
