Oh man, where do I even start? So, Doug Jung—remember him from ‘Star Trek Beyond’ in 2016?—he’s somehow landed himself the gig of leading the upcoming Mass Effect TV show. I mean, seriously, this guy’s got his hands in all sorts of pies. Wait, pies? Eh, you get what I mean.
And it’s not just the writing bit he’s handling. Nope, he’s also running the whole show. Talk about multitasking, right? He’s penned stuff like ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ back in 2018 and even wrote a couple episodes for Netflix’s ‘Mindhunter’. Anyone else get super into that or was it just me on a crime drama bender?
Oh! And while we’re throwing titles around, he crafted Apple’s historical drama ‘Chief of War’. Not gonna lie, historical dramas usually lose me after the first act, but maybe I’m just not sophisticated enough for ’em.
Anyway—or wait, maybe I should’ve mentioned this earlier—Jung’s not alone in the captain’s chair. Dan Casey’s there too, plus Michael Gamble from EA. Imagine being a fly on the wall during their production meetings. Bet there’s a lot of talk about space suits and alien tech.
Amazon gave the green light to the Mass Effect show, I think it was back in November 2024? But yeah, they’ve kept us in the dark about when we actually get to watch it. Maybe they enjoy keeping us guessing. Who knows?
They pulled a similar stunt with the Fallout series. Remember that? Critics loved it, of course. They’re even rolling out a second season soon. Feels like everyone’s jumping on the game-to-TV bandwagon these days, but hey, if it works, it works. At least it gives us nerds something to talk about other than DLCs.
