Nintendo’s got this thing now – they’re letting you pre-order games for the Switch 2, right? And, obviously, the consoles too. So, I was just doing my usual scroll through the online store and got stuck, as always, in the “Game file size” section. Seriously, why am I obsessed with this? Anyway, some of these new game sizes, what the heck? They’re huge! Kind of like the ones you’d see on a proper gaming PC, not like the tiny ones on the first Switch. Weird, right?
I guess it adds up since Nintendo’s throwing some serious power into the new console. We’re talking 1080p, maybe more, with all the fancy fps stuff. But wow, just a couple of these games and boom – your 256 GB Switch 2 storage is gone. Absurd? Maybe, but also, here’s some game size rundown for you:
You put all those games together, and it’s just over 300 GB. Mind blown yet? You’ll definitely need one of those snazzy microSD Express cards.
Now, here’s the kicker. I know it sounds wild to even think about extra storage when you don’t have the console yet. I mean, who does that? But grabbing a massive microSD Express card seems like a smart bet. They’re speedy, though not exactly easy on the wallet, compared to the old microSD cards we used for things like the Switch and Steam Deck. Oh, and those old cards? Forget about using them in the Switch 2 – except maybe for sifting through your old screenshots and video clips. Embrace the new! Or don’t. Your call.
